What it shows

The headline is the total number of days between the dates. Below that, the same gap is broken into whole weeks and into a years, months, and days form, which is the way people usually describe long spans of time.

How the count works

Dates are compared on the calendar, so the order you enter them does not matter — the result is always the distance between them. Impossible dates, like February 30th, are rejected rather than guessed.

The count is in whole days; partial days are not included.
Months vary in length, so the months figure follows the calendar.
Leap years are handled automatically.
